“MMD on the verge of oblivion”
A civil society organization has observed that the opposition Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) is poised to go into oblivion following its decision to expel its members from the party for allegedly attacking its leadership.
Africa Dialogue executive director Richard Kakuwa notes that the recent expulsions would have been avoided through dialogue with members holding dissenting views.
He warned that what is obtaining in the former ruling party will have a negative impact on the proposed alliance with the ruling Patriotic Front.
“The MMD has expelled some of its passionate members. What we are seeing is a power struggle or internal cleansing. I wish to say that let the MMD realise that expelling its members now will be costly to the party. why can’t the party leadership open doors to dialogue?” he asked.
Dr Kakuwa advised MMD leader Nevers Mumba to take up the courage of bringing all the internal opponents to a round table meeting and sort out the mess going on in the party, adding that the ruling party should closely watch the party it wishes to form an alliance with, as the current situation in the former ruling party is not healthy at all for an alliance.
The Africa Dialogue director has since called on all members of MMD to stop politicking and come together to salvage the little respect that is remaining in the former ruling a party.
Meanwhile, Dr Kakuwa who is also Every Home for Christ executive director, has called on the prophets in the country to keep their prophetic messages on the presidential election to themselves to avoid causing chaos among those contesting for the seat.
Bishop Kakuwa observed that any prophetic messages favouring a political party might lead that party to position themselves for victory, a situation he feels is a recipe for confusion.
“My advice to prophets with messages from God concerning the winner in the general elections is that for now messages should be kept to themselves because any party which is mentioned to win the elections will position themselves as winners and may not accept the results if the opposite happened. The right way to go is for prophets to be sensitive with time.
He noted that the impact of any prophetic revelation is that those contesting will not accept the results further advising that prophets are there to guide the nation and their primary concern should be peace in the country.
