Mine operations halted as tailings dam bursts in Mwense

The tailings dam at a copper mining firm in Mwense District, Luapula Province has collapsed, discharging effluents into the stream.

The pollution has forced the district administration to stop mining works, while ordering residents not to consume fish that would have died as a result as we as avoiding drinking water from the stream.

Apparently, the residents have raised red flag over the disaster, pointing out that the cassava they soak in the stream have been badly affected.
