Miles Sampa is a liar – FDD

Press Statement

The claim by one of the many Deputy Ministers in the Ministry of Commerce and Trade, Hon Miles Sampa that so far only K17billion has been used for by-elections is not true.  This is simply shinga butter.
A minimum of K5Billion is spent just to conduct one by-election. This is according to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), the body that is mandated by law to conduct elections.
So far we have had 5 by elections with the Feira one alone gobbling K7.7Billion and the Lukulu West and Kapiri Mposhi squandering a whooping K11Billion. For Livingstone and Mpongwe by elections, God knows how much has been diluted from the national treasury.
As FDD we reiterate our call that these by elections are an unnecessary wasteful expenditure and therefore this circus of by elections should come to an end.
Hon Sampa and his government should understand that the contingency allocation in the budget is not for sangwapo but it is meant to go to needy areas that will address the immediate needs of the people.
These politically induced by elections are not putting food on the table of our suffering masses.
