Miles gets K250, 000 loan, starts a taxi company for Youths in Matero

Matero Patriotic Front Member of Parliament has got a loan from Indo Zambia Bank for empowerment of Youths in his constituency.

Indo Zambia Bank issued the loan Tuesday, July 29, 2014 amounting K250, 000 which will be repaid this year from Sampa’s MP gratuity.

“INDO Bank this morning issued a cheque to me for K250,000 being a loan to be repaid from my MP gratuity this year,” Sampa said. “I have elected to pass on my gratuity to economically empower the youths of Matero by launching Metro Cab company which will run as a cooperative.”

Sampa says the beneficiaries of the Metro cabs will pay into the Metro Cab account at INDO Zambia bank a weekly fee of K600. He explains that the income generated from these taxis will enable him to buy additional taxis to empower more youths.

“After 3 years, the white book of each vehicle is changed from MetroCab to individual driver’s names. I am committed to economically empowering the youths both in Matero and other parts of Zambia starting with the 10 youths given the cars today,” Sampa who is also Commerce Deputy Minister explains.

From a sample of 50 from George, Lilanda, Chunga and Emmasdale areas, 10 Youths were randomly picked by a raffle conducted in front of media for transparency and to ensure beneficiaries are not on party lines. He says in September when I expect my full gratuity, MetroCab will role out new 10 more Metro cabs to the youth.
