Margaret Mwanakatwe to learn her fate this week

The protracted Lusaka Central Constituency petition appeal case will be brought to a conclusion this week after the Constitutional Court set Wednesday, October 31, 2018 as the date it will deliver judgment.

This is according to a notice to the parties dated October 26, 2018.

In this matter, serving Member of Parliament Margaret Mwanakatwe appealed to the Constitutional Court after her election was nullified by the Lusaka High Court following an electoral petition by opposition UPND candidate, Charlotte Scott.

In November 2016, Judge Mwiinde Siavwapa invalidated Mwanakatwe’s election as MP on grounds of electoral malpractice which includes corruption, bribery and racism.

  1. As a Zambian reading and watching what is happening on the political field. If Mama Margret Mwanakatwe’s election was nullified by the High Court, why was she appointed as a minister? Why did the Speaker of National Assembly not declared the seat vacant just as Hon. Davis Mwila has requested Speaker of National Assembly to declare the seat of Mr Chishimba Kambwili vacant? Both MPs had appealed to the ConCourt but the action seems to be different. May I be advised please
