Man stabbed to death in tragic love triangle

A 42-year-old man of Mufulira District has been stabbed to death by his girlfriend’s ex-lover in a tragic end to a love triangle.

According to police, the deceased identified as Bernard Mpundu of house number 138, Kawama Township had gone to visit his girlfriend Charity Nakainga aged 33 when her ex-lover Luckson Simwanza aged 50 showed up.

Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga told the press that Nakainga’s ex-lover identified as Luckson Simwanza, 50, turned up at her home in Chibuluma area and found her with the deceased, after which a fight ensued.

Katanga said in the process, Simwanza stabbed Mpundu in the armpits with a sharp object and he bled to death.

She explained that the Nakainga told police that her relationship with the suspect had ended in November and was now going out with Mpundu.

Katanga stated that the suspect however indicated that he was still dating the same woman and lost his temper when he found her with another man.

“On 31st December around 00:45hrs Lackson went to Charity’s house and knocked on the door, Charity came out then they started quarrelling, in the process Lackson injured Charity with a sharp metal on the right shoulder, her current boyfriend came out to rescue the lady but was also stabbed in the right armpit and on the back. Lackson wanted to run away but was apprehended and taken to Chibuluma police post,” Katanga stated.

She said the suspect is currently in police custody and has been charged with two counts of murder and unlawful wounding.

The woman is currently admitted in hospital.
