Malawi scenario could have repeated itself in Zambia 2026 elections- SP Youth Chairperson

Socialist Party National Youth Chairperson Kelvin Kaunda says the United Party for National Development (UPND) administration is likely going to be out of power come 2026 general elections.

He says unless the current Government waves a magic wand before the 2026 elections, and turnaround the country’s fortunes, they are likely going to be voted out of office.

He says the Malawi elections should be a wake up call for President Hakainde Hichilema and his administration.

He made these sentiments while commenting on the just ended presidential elections in Malawi, where Dr Chakwera conceded defeat to President-elect Peter Mutharika.

Kaunda pointed out that it was sad scenario that Zambia lost former president Edgar Lungu, whom he strongly believes had a great chance to return to power.

“It’s unfortunate that we lost the former president because it’s been very clear in the past two, three years that Lungu was supposed to come back and take over the leadership of the country in 2026,” he said.

President Hichilema’s administration is faced with a couple of challenges, chief among them electricity shortages.
