Malawi declares 14 days of National mourning

Malawi’s President Lazarus Chakwera has declared 14 days of National mourning in the country.

The President also ordered that all flags fly at half mast for 7 days in honour of those that have died.

Chakwera said this when he visiting some Malawians affected by tropical cyclone Freddy yesterday.

After visiting some of the affected areas President Chakwera called for an emergency cabinet meeting to approve funds with which to assist victims.

About 2.6 billion Kwacha (approximately 1.5 million US Dollars) was since been approved by cabinet to assist victims.

However, the Malawi leader appealed for more support from the international community.

The President also directed that everyone who is missing should be accounted for, the dead should be accorded dignified burial and those that are trapped in other places should be brought to safety.
