Malanji loses helicopters, houses to state

Former foreign affairs minister under the Patriotic Front regime has lost his two helicopters and three houses in Lusaka’s Silverest area.

The loss comes in the wake of an order by the Lusaka that Malanji’s assets be forefeited to the state because he bought them with stolen money.

In the meantime, the court has denied former Secretary to the Cabinet Fredson Yamba, bail pending appeal.

Both cases revolve around the controversial K108 million transferred to Zambia’s mission in Turkey during Yamba’s time as Treasury Secretary under the PF government. Prosecutors argued that the funds’ release bypassed parliamentary oversight, ignored budgetary rules, and violated procurement procedures. -Kalemba
