Lusambo Found Guilty for Proceeds of Crime

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has found former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo guilty of possessing two properties valued at over 22 million Kwacha, reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
When the matter came up for judgement before Chief Resident Magistrate Davis Chibwili, the court said it was satisfied that the prosecution had proved their case against Mr. Lusambo.
Magistrate Chibwili said he agreed with the State that there was a disparity between the former Minister’s source of income and the value of the property he owns.
The court has however adjourned the matter to August 29, 2025 for sentencing to enable the state to obtain records of previous conviction.
This was after Anti-Corruption Commission prosecutor Anne Bento informed the court that Mr. Lusambo was a second offender.
Facts in the matter are that Mr. Lusambo, on dates unknown but between May 1, 2015 and December 31, 2021, possessed a four-bedroom house situated in Chamba Valley.
In count two, facts are that the now convict, on dates unknown but between May 1, 2015 and December 31, 2021, possessed an incomplete block of 6 flats in Chamba Valley.
Both properties are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.
