Lungu’s wife bemoans closure of CBU

First Lady Esther Lungu has castigated political leaders who are using students to propel their agenda.

Mrs Lungu says the future of Zambia lies in its youth and they should be allowed to complete their studies without disturbances.

The First lady was speaking when she paid a courtesy call on CBU vice chancellor Naison Ngoma today.

Mrs Lungu says it will have been better if she found students and interacted with them.

The First Lady called for peace and togetherness if the country is to develop.

And Copperbelt Vice Chancellor Naison Ngoma says Students were involved in nasty skirmishes with the police that forced the closure of the institution.

Professor Ngoma said the closure of the institution has not pleased management but was necessary because of the riotous behaviour of the students.

He also assured the first lady that CBU is working towards meeting the 50 percent women in management positions.

Mrs Lungu is in Kitwe to officiate at the international women day celebrations.

Meanwhile Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu says he will issue a ministerial statement between tomorrow Wednesday and Thursday in Parliament to state Government’s position on the closed public Universities.

Dr. Kaingu was responding to ZNBC news when he was asked on re-opening of the two high learning institutions.

Government on February 3, 2016 closed the Copperbelt and University of Zambia great east campus due to a riotous behaviour of students at the two higher institutions of learning – ZNBC
