Lungu’s threats a sign of his imminent exit – UPND

The opposition UPND says recent threats by President Lungu is a sign that he and his PF are on their way out.

In a statement below to Zambian Eye, the UPND urges Lungu to prepare for a smooth handover of power.

The UPND has declared victory in the August 2016 elections.

Straight after observing the national day of prayers and peace, President Edgar Lungu in his usual hypocrisy is already back on the warpath, once again threatening brutality and violence against the UPND at his rallies across the country.

With elections nearing Zambians are still waiting to hear what the PF and Lungu will do for the country, just as we have been explaining the UPND 10 Point Plan for Zambia wherever we go.

Given the economic chaos, job losses and rising food prices of the past year the PF must tell the people what it will do differently next time. Instead all we hear from Lungu are threats, violence, hate speech, and derogatory remarks against us in the UPND, which are clearly intended to intimidate and provoke our supporters.

It is now clear that Lungu and the PF have no message for the people of Zambia and are headed for exit. Why else would he be running away from a simple debate? The best way forward is not to take a confrontational approach, however, but to prepare for a peaceful handover of power as other presidents have done before him.

As UPND we have endured a lot of violence and brutality against our supporters, including inhumane killings, under Lungu’s leadership, as well as the hunger and poverty across the country that has resulted from his failed leadership.

These recent threats are nothing but a desperate attempt to incite people against us, but we are calling on Zambians to turnout and vote for change in such numbers on 11th August 2016 that President Lungu will not be able to hide from the truth any longer.
