Lungu’s barbershop convinted for murder

The man who was a barberman for former president Edgar Lungu, Shebby Chilekwa has been convicted of murder.

His family broke down as a three hour Judgement was delivered in Mongu, western Zambia. The wife was seen being helped outside the Court as she broke down.

A High Court Judge in Mongu convicted Chilekwa in a murder case he was jointly charged with former PF Secretary General Mumbi Phiri.

Judge Charles Zulu ruled that the prosecution team proved beyond reasonable doubt that Chilekwa killed Banda.

The sentence will however be handed over tomorrow at 10:00 hrs. Before the UPND Administration did away with the death sentence, murder conviction carried a death sentence.

The duo were being tried for having murdered a UPND Cadre Lawrence Banda during a Council Secretary by-election in Kaoma in 2019.

Earlier before Judgement, the State entered in a nolle prosequi in favor of Ms Phiri who had been in jail for over a year just hours before judgement.
