Acting Patriotic Front (PF) president Given Lubinda has told a Church service in Pretoria held in honour of former President Edgar Lungu of what he alleged denial of life by authorities in Zambia.
Lungu 68 died in a Pretoria health facility last Thursday, 5th June 2025.
Speaking when he addressed the Mourners today on behalf of the PF, Lubinda described the blocking of Lungu to travel out for medication on three occasions as denying him access to life thrice.
“Lungu ran his race admirably but was denied life three times; any individual denied of the opportunity to access medical care or consult a physician is being denied life,”he asserted.
Lubinda lamented why Providence would take a man like him, who was selfless and embraced all.
Lubinda questioned why Lungu is treated differently from other former presidents who have passed away.
He observed that the deaths of all previous presidents were announced by the incumbent, yet why was Lungu’s demise not similarly proclaimed?
“Why was he treated differently from other presidents who have died? Even in death, he continues to endure the agony he experienced in life,”Lubinda articulated.
He recounted that from 09:00 to 15:30 hours, the public awaited what had initially been a mere rumor to be confirmed by the sitting president.
It was disheartening when the late Lungu’s daughter, Tasila Mwansa Lungu, was the one to break the news of her father’s passing.
By the time the government issued its announcement, it was to declare that Lungu was being honored rather than to announce his demise “honored in death, seriously?” Lubinda expressed incredulously.
He maintained that Lungu navigated his course with great integrity yet was denied life on three separate occasions.
Lubinda proclaimed that Lungu’s spirit endures; more individuals inspired by Lungu shall rise to fulfill his aspirations.
“His resilience and courage are impervious to suppression; Lungu possessed a pure and forgiving heart, devoid of animosity towards anyone,”Lubinda remarked.
During the same church service, family Lawyer Makebi Zulu expressed gratitude to all Zambians for their support.
Among the distinguished attendees were former Vice President Enock Kavindele, Secretary to the cabinet Patrick Kangwa, PF Acting President Given Lubinda, PF Secretary General Raphael Nakachinda, and the late President Lungu’s wife, Esther, alongside their daughter, Tasila amongst others.
President Lungu served as Zambia’s sixth president from 2015 to 2021.
