President Edgar Lungu has arrived in South Africa and summoned two South African opposition leaders Julius Malema and Mmusi Maimane.

Malema leader of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and his Democratic Alliance counterpart Maimane had been among those calling for the release of Hakainde Hichilema of the opposition UPND who was incarcerated on treason charges.

Hichilema was released this week on Wednesday after spending 127 days in prison after the state had no evidence to proceed with trial.

Ariving in South Africa Friday evening for a SADC Summit, President Lungu said he was summoning the two leading opposition leaders for a meeting.

PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU SUMMONS OPPOSITION EFF& DA LEADERS

Pretoria-Friday 18th August 2017

Zambia’s President, Mr. Edgar Lungu has summoned for a meeting, opposition leaders in South Africa who have been making remarks against Zambia.

President Lungu said this when he was welcomed by a cheering crowd upon arrival at a named Hotel.

He said that he had instructed the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa to facilitate such a meeting with Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema and his Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane during his stay in South Africa.

He expressed concern that the two opposition parties appeared to disrespect the sovereignty of Zambia and had interfered in the domestic affairs of countries like Zambia, Swaziland, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

He said he was keen to engage the two opposition leaders to understand their concerns about Zambia.

He said the two parties were creating a dangerous precedence that was likely to encourage political interference across borders.

And Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba said that his office had started the process of preparing for the proposed meetings.

  1. To what end Mr. President? Do you really think this meeting will illicit anything positive? You will just endup being insulted and disrespected by Julies. You know he is a lose canon. I am really hoping you are not following ill advice from someone in your office. Desist from making no bodies become significant in the eyes of other by blessing them with your attention. You need to grow a thick skin your excellency otherwise you will flinch at training sound of leaves rattling

  3. This is most unusual that a visiting Head of State can summon Maimane and Malema and behind Zuma’s back. Protocol requires that such meetings are organized thru diplomatic channels. The Dept of International Relations in Zuma’s govt should have facilitated these meetings. In any Lungu deported Maimane from Zambia so what does he want from him in his own Country. This is a Diplomatic boob by Lungu. Lungu can’t summon Maimane and Malema to a meeting in their own Country. Even Zuma can’t summon these Opposition Leaders to his Office but Zuma can invite the 2 Leaders for a private discussion. The Lungu Protocol Officials don’t know what they are doing. Surprisingly as a Lawyer Lungu doesn’t know these legal and Protocol issues. In any case Human Rights are Universal and there was nothing in Maimane and Malema in criticising Lungu’s arrest of HH on Trumped Up Charges.A Nolle does not cure the persecution of HH at the Direction of Lungu.

  4. What a fool Lungu is. The opposition parties in south Africa call Zuma a thief, a constitutional delinquent right in his face. I hope malema insults him and call him names. Lungu must realize that in south Africa democracy works. There is no POA and people demonstrate all the time when they feel agrivieved. Don’t bring kanyama mentality to Pretoria

  6. Lungu, you have already forgotten that you chased. Maim and and made the plane to turn back when he wanted to come and hear court session for HH . Now in their country you summon them? Shame, I don’t think they will agree. No way. Again you will be disappointed . Nothing is going right in your way.
