President Edgar Lungu has appointed Nyimba MP Olipa Phiri as the new Minister of Community Development and Social services, replacing Emerine Kabanshi who was fired today over the social cash transfer scandal.

Phiri currently serves as Chairperson of the Committee of Government Assurances in Parliament.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has promoted Acting Zambia Air Force commander David Muma to Lieutenant General and effectively appointed him as Zambia Air Force commander.

He takes over from Lieutenant General Eric Chimese who was fired a couple of months ago in unexplained circumstances.

One Response to Lungu replaces Kabanshi with Nyimba MP Olipa Phiri

  1. Yes, unexplained circumstances, but to fire a commander of armed forces is not a small matter. There has to be a big issue behind it. It is the duty of investigative journalists to expose what is not said in public. And, again, one hopes that if the reason behind the firing has to do with plunder, serious punitive sanctions should be meted out to serve as a reminder to those that are planning the same that plunder or corruption is severely punishable.
