The opposition UPND says it has information that President Edgar Lungu is planning to have it’s leaders Hakainde Hichilema (HH) and Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) arrested.
In a media alert this evening, the UPND says the President Lungu has since directed Police Chief to effect the arrest on trumped up charges.
The party however says it is not shaken with the plans to have it’s leaders arrested.
Below is the media alert issued by the UPND through it’s Lusaka province Minister.
LUNGU ,POLICE PLAN TO ARREST HH ,GBM
We wish to inform the UPND family and the general Public that we have been reliably informed that Edgar Lungu has instructed the Inspector General of Police to arrest our President Hakainde Hichilema and his Vice President Dr Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba on tramped up charges today.
We wish to notify the citizens that we are not moved by such malicious schemes. They are simply a demonstration of a failed state.
This time, we shall not allow what happened to our President in western Province after the road rage.
We urge the UPND family to remain alert and focused, victory is assured!
We instead expect President Lungu to expeditiously address the failed economy, alleged Chinese take over of some companies and indiscriminate acquisition of land.
We wish to promise the nation that UPND remains committed to fixing the economy and bring back Zambia’s economy to where it is supposed to be.
God bless the UPND leadership, God bless Zambia. Victory over oppression and poor governance is indeed coming tomorrow.
