President Edgar Lungu has hinted that his government may not enact the freedom of Information bill.

The ruling party – Patriotic Front has been promising to enact the bill that will easy the work of journalists to have access to information of public institutions.

But President Lungu on Sunday said he was not happy with the way the media was handling information. He said until the media “conducts itself professionally” his government will not enact the bill.

This comes after The Post Newspaper published a story that government had hidden information that it had gotten a loan amounting to $198 million from China for security purposes.

President Lungu said issues of state security could not be publicly discussed. He said he expects the media to exhibit some responsibility.

Earlier his Minister of Information Chishimba Kambwili directed the Police to arrest government officials leaking state documents to the media.

  3. This was one of the most brilliant Post newspapers art of journalism to make government accountable to the people. Keep it up my friend Fred. It is a just struggle a struggle against the most reactionary corrupt elements in our corridors of power. The struggle is not for the weak souls but for those who can build resilience from the forces of oppression.
