Lungu files nominations, says he will win by 65%

Edgar Lungu, the presidential candidate for the governing Patriotic Front has declared that he will win the January 20 Special Presidential election, reports Zambian Eye Correspondent in Lusaka.

And Thousands of PF cadres and sympathisers filled the Supreme Court grounds to support Lungu as he files in nomination papers.

Speaking after he filed in his nomination papers on Saturday, Lungu said he will win the elections with about 65 percent. He said the PF has grown and increased its support base from the time it came into power in 2011. Lungu explained that the PF has made serious inroads in areas the party did not have support in 2011.

Lungu who has reconciled with the other factions led by Interim President Guy Scott said victory was certain for the PF. He said the PF is ready to continue governing the nation.

He urged PF members and supporters that now that the factions have reconciled the party will go full throttle in the presidential campaigns to retain the presidency.

Lungu who also serves as Defence and Justice Minister has promised that his party will ensure that it respects and observe the electoral code of conduct during its campaigns. He has warned that he will not tolerate violence. He promised that once elected PF will run an inclusive government.

Dr. Scott accompanied by his wife Charlotte, Lungu’s wife Esther, PF Secretary General Davis Chama and several Ministers and party officials made Lungu’s team at the Nominations.
Dr. Scott reaffirmed that he will ensure that the country holds a free and fair election.
