Lungu commissions Robert Makasa University

President Edgar Lungu has commissioned the Robert Kapasa Makasa University in Chinsali the first of its kind in Muchinga Province.

And Lungu says the commissioning of the 132 million Kwacha Robert Makasa University is a clear sign that he has not abandoned the vision of the late President Michael Sata.

The President says the marvelous piece of architecture of the University should shame the opposition who are claiming the PF is not working.

Lungu also said that he hopeful that the coming of the University will improve entrepreneurship and reduce poverty.

He said the university should be responsive to the needs of the community and the country at large.

The President says the University should help decongest Copperbelt University and University of Zambia.

He has since directed that there should not be more than two students per room.

President Lungu has also directed the Copperbelt University, who will run the University, not to abandon the core business of the University to enhance Science, Mathematics and Technology.

And President Lungu announced that all those who were working under the Rural Road Unit will be put on the Zambia National Service payroll depending on their performance.

And Registrar at the Copperbelt University Hellen Mukanda said CBU is ready to start running the University by September this year.

Mukanda said CBU will initially start with five programmes which will include ICT, Wildlife, Agro Forest among others.

She said the University has a bed capacity of 650 bed spaces and that it will also cater for day scholars.

And Acting Higher Education Minister Stephen Kampyongo said the university will not only benefit Chinsali but the entire country.

Kampyongo said the University will greatly improve the delivery of quality education and commended the contractor for putting up a good structure. Meanwhile, Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe said land has been opened up for people to build a modern shopping mall to service students.
