Lungu and HH meet at Catholic Church during the memorial of President Sata

Lusaka prominent Clergy Bishop Simon Chihana has condemned the attacking of the Vice president’s residence in her constituency by suspected UPND Cadres.

And Bishop Chihana has called on the Church to summon all political party leaders and the Secretary Generals to a one day meeting over the political violence that is being experienced in the country.

Bishop Chihana said this in a statement below to Zambian Eye. He said just condemning the act was enough adding that there is need for these leaders to be be brought to a round-table.

Below is the statement:

These political violence that are going on in our country are not welcome at all. Our political leaders must sober and address these matters together.
Why should now cadres go to the extent of attacking the private house of our Vice President, breaking the windows and beating up relatives to the Veep. This is uncalled for and condemned with all the condemnation it deserves.

Zambia cannot be a society that does not have regard of constitutional leaders.
Whilst we appreciate the UPND president Mr Hakainde speaking against the barbaric activities of its party cadres, as a church, we still feel strongly that there must be more which must be acted on by all major political players of our country.

We call on the church to summon all the political party leaders with their executive teams and the Electoral Commission of Zambia executive to a one day serious caucus meeting to find the best way of living together and coexist without being violent against each other.

With the general elections coming next year and the heat is being felt now of how it might become during the allowed time of campaigning, one can only encourage the parties to learn to coexist now without any form of violence and this can be well achieved since the crop of our current political leaders not one of them has ever been a stone thrower but educated men and women from whom we expect sanity in their politics.

Bishop Simon Chihana,

  1. pf are crooks, there was no attack on inonge’s house. it is a ploy to paint a picture that upnd are violent when it is pf cadres dressed in upnd regalia causing havoc

  2. The perpetrators of violence is the PF party because they fear losing popularity and the 2016 elections. What should HH be sat down for when the instigators of violence are known. The aggressors are PF cadres and their actions sanctioned by Davies Chama and Edga Lungu. During his copperbelt tour, HH was attacked by PF cadres and no other people. In Luanshya he was confronted by the police and PF cadres, in mongu, the same thing happened. So why should HH be sat down for. Is Bishop chihana afraid to call a spade a spade? Nothing will be resolved if those who speak for the people fail to identify the real problem. PF are the aggressors and ECL and Chama should be told in no uncertain terms that Zambian people are tired of the violence perpetrated by the ruling party. It is the PF who have brought this culture of violence and insulting other tribes.

  3. Bishop this is a welcome move, though I am just disappointed that you had to let it go this far and especially that the comment is coming from you after our vp has been involved. I want to believe that all life is important and more especially in Gods eyes. It is the build up of small violent activities that results into civil strife in a country and especially when the police do not act proffecianally. I urge the church to speak louder for the voiceless, people who will not make headlines when they are attacked the weak at all levels and not only when something bad happens to the them. Right now one would think all is well in prisons and hospitals, let a politician be thrown in there today, then you will hear ngos rising condeming the pathetic conditions and worse still the church. This goes to say they do not valu the people that are there now.
I am not in support of any party but I have not liked the violence and the unfair treatment of the opposition by the policy and it is these things that bring discontent and eventual taking the role into their handsand that degenerates into violence. This is a welcome move bishop but ensure that its done in respect and protection of all humanity irrespective of status

    • kk this is the way to think; balanced and unbiased. Most times the church and NGOs are quite and inattentive to violations and abuses of the minority. only to voice out when its one of the elites or them who are at the receiving end.

  4. Bishop Chihana – Very good suggestion, but please sit HH down and remind him that whether he accepts it or not, ECL is the current president of Zambia elected by the Zambian people. HH’s ego to want to lead this country at any cost is becoming dangerous and if left unchecked has the potential to plunge the country into chaos. After you talk with HH, then invite the president to sit the two down. In the absence of HH respecting a sitting president, forget about asking ECL to sit down with HH – it is very unfair and disrespectful. This is a country of Laws and HH is not above the Law.

    • Observer,
You seem to the only happy person in Zambia today. if you can prove to me that the economy is doing well , then I can agree with your sentiments. HH has a constitutional right in this democracy to express his views about Zambia.

      • Nangalembe – That is right: but HH does not have a constitutional right to disrespect a constitutionally elected president.

  8. When we hear that pf attacked upnd supporters on CB, this so called bishop is nowhere to be heared and lungu didnt condemn it. But when the opposit happens and hh does the noble thing by condemning the act, the job seeking maggots come on the scene. Nowonder God has left our country.

  9. U cows of hh u have respect of God’s people ECL is the president of all Zambian including hh and he deserves respect

  10. Well said Bishop. The problem has been UPND, they never want to respect a constitutionally elected President in ECL. Ever since HH took over UPND the party has transformed from the best opposition party under the tutorage of late Anderson Mazoka (MHSRIP) in our land, to the most tribal and violent one. All this is because of HH uncompromising desire to get to Plot one at all costs, but we all know that this man has a lot to cover up and that’s the only reason he wants State House and if we make a mistake and give it to him he’ll run this country like his own kantemba. I say no to HH and I am afraid my vote will go to ECL, period.

  11. Is it true that he is a prominent Bishop? He divorced his wife and married a prostitute.

    November 25, 2015 at 8:40 am

  12. why the man so called hh is so stupid? His felling to pay his own works salaries. What is he going to do with this country? foolish man.

    November 25, 2015 at 8:41 am

  13. Yes Bishop Chihana is prominent than you or your father or mother and entire clan put together. You have just failed to address the matter. Divorced or not, he is far better than your whole family beginning from your great great great father.

  14. hh is like a hungry lazy man who smell where they are flying chicken, but he cannot get even ka lever to eat . so for him to get to plot 1, unless he use magic or else he will be just smelling it because of his selfishness.

  15. When poverty hits hard especially to those who think Edgar Lungu has added value to this country then will they know that Edgar Lungu means nothing to this country. If people can’t vote for Hakainde Hichilema in 2016 then poverty will increase you will fail even to raise your fists, carry panga let alone davies Chama pull a trigger.

    November 25, 2015 at 5:06 pm

  16. This is the bishop who divorced a woman from the Masinja family because she is Tonga? Let him go and suck the devil’are bums because he is sinner and loves money more than human being? Keep your dogs away from HH and all will be well. Why are you stopping HH from organising his party in Copperbelt and Lusaka provinces? You are making Lungu a dictator and when violence erupts in Zambia it will be your fault together with Lungu. Tell Lungu to stop terrorising innocent people. He has failed to run a government, he is specialising in violence and you called prostitute bishop Chihana stop producing stinking flatulence from your mouth. The country does not need dull people like you.
