Lungu addresses final rally, says will not fight to remain in State House

FB_IMG_1470860896771President Edgar Lungu has urged all participants in tomorrow’s general elections to accept and respect the outcome of the polls.

And the President has warned that the country’s security wings are on hand to deal with those that will want to cause violence after losing the elections.

Addressing thousands of Lusaka residents that attended the Patriotic Front’s final campaign rally at Lusaka’s Woodlands stadium, President Lungu said there can only be one winner in an election, hence the need for the losers to graciously accept the outcome.

He promised to concede defeat should he lose, emphasising that he will not shed blood to remain in State House. He however warned those hoping to ascend to power outside the provisions of the law that they will be met with the full wrath of the law.

And Lungu could not resist to take a swipe at his main challenger Hakainde Hichilema (UPND) and his running mate Geoffrey Mwamba, calling them “rich men without wisdom.”

He claimed Hichilema and Mwamba had spent most of their money on politics and were only seeking the presidency to recoup their “investments”.

He boasted that he beat Hichilema in 2015 despite all his millions and referred to himself as a “nonentity”. He urged the electorate to vote for him and show the duo that money is not everything.

And his running mate Inonge Wina praised Lungu for walking the talk on issues of gender equality.

  2. I hope more substantive issues were discussed at these last rallies. I hope all candidates thanked the electorate for being real heroes of democracy because Zambians have refused to be baited into violence despite the provocations. Zambians deserve a pat on the back.
Money is still important as the President accumulated k22.5 million in 18 months and that is the declared worth. What about the undeclared that went to relatives and into hidden investments and so on. This is one of the greatest and fastest accumulations of wealth in history. If money was not important, this primitive political accumulation of capital would not have taken place.
The major political parties attracted huge rallies this election cycle. Let’s hope that the masses will turn up tomorrow to vote. The best man for the voters will win.
There is life after this. Flight lieutenant Jerry Rawlings got many assignments after leaving office. Obasanjo enjoyed world employment and travel after leaving office. Banda and KK are being taken care of and indulging in politics. Goodluck Jonathan is here in Zambia observing these elections and enjoying himself and getting a hefty allowance. So there is life after the Presidency. There is also life after losing an election.
The most important that we all can learn from Rawlings, Obasanjo, Jonathan, Banda, KK and others is the preservation of the nation which is bigger than one individual, Zambia is bigger than the sum of its human political parts. Hichilema has his millions and his farms and wealth, Lungu has his new millions, his new farms and his new wealth and they can live happily ever after. So there should be no problem in conceding defeat and letting Zambia win.
The message is squarely also directed at the ECZ. Don’t let an undeserving guy win. Don’t fall prey to the destruction of Zambia by being bought by anybody in power Irvin opposition. Be guided by the behaviour of Chief Justice Mambilima who rejected the attempted destruction of Zambia with silver coins in the election of 2011.
To the propel of Zambia, Mwabombeni.

  4. LUNGU IS INDEED HOPELESS AND WITHOUT BRAIN. HOW CAN A VISIONLESS PERSON GET RICH? TO BECOME RICH ONE NEEDS TO HAVE A VISION. THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS WHERE OTHERS HAVE FAILED IS CLEAR TESTIMONY THAT HH AND GBM ARE VISIONARY. IT IS ON THE OTHER HAND LUNGU WHO IS WITHOUT VISION AND SHOULD BE VOTED OUT. HIS VISION IS TO STEAL FROM PUBLIC COFFERS.

  5. All his former ministers shined the event because of frustration. Lungu’s speach was only about HH & GBM’s character. I left the stadium disappointed because I want him to tell me wat he will do in five years but maaaaaa… His topic was HH
    Good bye Lunguuuuuuuuu!!!

  10. PF COLLAPSES! KAMBWILI ANNOUNCES HIS LAST MINUTE RESIGNATION FROM PF AND FORMS HIS OWN POLITICAL PARTY.
Reports reaching us indicate that Former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili has resigned from PF with imeadeate effect and has since formed his own party called the Economic Progress Party (EPP). Confirming his resignation, PF Kabushi aspiring MP Bowman Lusambo said Mr Kambwili will officially tender his resignation letter to the PF president Edgar Lungu before Friday next week. Other PF sources on the copper-belt says Mr Kambwili has managed to convince every aspiring MP on the Copperbelt to join his party next week as he believes President Lungu has no chance of winning tomorrow’s elections.

The resignation of Mr Kambwili came in the wake of his self conviction that the ruling PF is losing tomorrow’s elections to the UPND. But other Sources said Mr Kambwili is frustrated following the constitutional court judgement that rules that all PF ministers who were working after the dissolution of parliament were illegal and that they should vacate their offices and pay back the money. The former PF strongman believes it is pointless for him to be in PF when his seat will be nullified even if he won it in roan constituency and accused Edgar Lungu of being a dull leader and lawyer who mislead other ministers into believing that it was the right thing to remain in offices after the parliament is dissolved.
“You know Mr Kambwili has really been affected by the court ruling. Today, he refused to join President Lungu and Inonge Wina in campaigning. He believes PF has already lost these elections and he is now busy telling PF members NOT to vote for Edgar Lungu”
Mr Kambwili has not been happy with most of the people president Lungu chose to stand on PF ticket such that he has called some ‘akagungubiti”. His last minute resignation will surely affect PF’s presidential results. The former information minister has been very instrumental in uniting PF after several allays of the late Sata were chased from PF by president Lungu in preference to his fellow Easterner. The Bembas have been the most affected people in the PF as Rupiah Banda had asked him to chase a lot of them from the party and replaced them with 35% of MMD MPs who were friends to Rupiah Banda.
And a check in Roan Constituency has revealed that Mr Kambwili has been campaigning for the UPND aspiring candidate for the post of the executive mayor, ignoring the PF candidate who was appointed by President Lungu. Three weeks ago, he reconciled with the young man he insulted but that did not take long, as Mr Kambwili again insulted him together with President Lungu saying he was the one who had helped the PF not to integrate after a lot of its senior members resigned to join the UPND earlier this year.
“You know Mr Kambwili knows Edgar Lungu has already lost these elections to HH and would not like to be among the PF senior members who will be mocked after the elections. So he has decided to ditch the PF and formed his own party so that he can attract a lot of MPs. So the UPND will not be competing with anyone in tomorrow’s elections as the PF has now died a natural death just like the MMD. But I pity the uninformed voters who would be voting for the PF when the party has already lost elections”, said Mr Kumwenda one of PF copperbelt campaign managers..
