Luanshya Mayor and DC fight over Kambwili’s seat

A cold war has broken out between Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda (pictured) and District Commissioner Joel Chibuye over the Roan Constituency parliamentary seat.

Sources have revealed that both officials are eyeing the seat which currently being held by Chishimba Kambwili through a court order.

The Patriotic Front (PF) expelled Kambwili from the party but he challenged the expulsion in court.

PF sources in Luanshya had revealed that Mayor Chanda held a meeting at his house last month where he told his supporters that very soon the courts are going to uphold Kambwili’ s expulsion and it was time to get to ground and start work.

“The Mayor told us that very soon the courts will rule that PF followed procedure when expelling Kambwili, so you people here must be ready, we need to quickly start working and ensured that I get the adoption and later won the seat for the party,” a source narrated.

“The mayor said those who would volunteer as foot soldiers would be given talk time and a token of appreciation from his own personal resources. But the mayor was told that even the DC was positioning himself but he told his supporters that Chibuye would not be adopted.

“The mayor told us not to worry about the DC because he was not going to be adopted.”

The youthful Chanda has been eyeing the Roan seat for a long time. Prior to the 2016 elections, he and Kambwili engaged in a very public spat over the seat, trading accusations of witchcraft and corruption. Kambwili eventually prevailed and Chanda had to settle for the mayoral seat.

Luanshya is made up of 2 constituencies namely Roan and Luanshya constituencies. Lately, both the Mayor and the DC have been frequenting Roan constituency under the pretext of inspecting developmental projects.

Sources within the PF in Luanshya have said the Mayor risks being bruised as he is opening up more battle fronts than he can handle. They allege that he has since collided with Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang’ombe and Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo over the Copperbelt PF chairmanship.
