Barely a month after Heroes Stadium in Lusaka was declared unfit for International matches, the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola faces closure.
Sports Permanent Secretary Chileshe Kangwa said at briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the stadium had passed the major renovation date and needed upgrade.
“CAF and CAA {Confederations of African Athletics} told us the same thing about Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
“There is a need to replace the pitch and running track. But we have been granted permission to host the Ivory Coast game but after that, Levy Stadium will be closed to get a new track and a new pitch,” Chileshe said.
Ministry of Sport will soon invite bids from Zambian contractors to carry out maintenance works at Levy.
