Legendary musician Tshala Muana dies
Legendary Congolese Musician Tshala Muana who also dated Veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga is dead.
Tshala Muana became an international prominent musician in the 80s and 90s. Famously for her Rhumba music, dressing and dancing skills, she was a marvel to watch.
She dated politician and freedom fighter Vernon Johnson Mwaanga commonly known as VJ whom she had wanted to marry. VJ says he was at the time not ready.
Blogger and Keen follower of Tshala Muana, Yona Musukwa pen down the following:
I have heard a toddler radio presenter referring to Tshala Muana as “Lingala rumba musician”.
Firstly, her rumba music knowledge is limping, and very staggering like a drunk.
Secondly, the deceased Tshala Muana was never a rumba musician. She did a genre of music called ‘mutwashi’, a genre she brought out of the congo villages and made it gain international fame.
Therefore, she was a mutwashi musician, not a ‘Lingala Rumba musician’.
Thirdly, there is no genre of music called ‘Lingala Rumba’. Bo presenter, Lingala is a language, one of the four national languages of DRC. The official language being French.
Fourthly, only a genre called rumba exist. It was an import from Cuba, then Congolese modified it with local influence, and evolved over the years to what we know today as rumba. It has to be mentioned that rumba has many sub-genres under it’s belt, such as soukous, cavacha, pachanga, etc.
Fifthly, contrary to popular beliefs, Kwasa Kwasa, Ndombolo, Tcha-tcho are not rumba sub genres, they are more of dancing styles linked to rumba musicians and bands.
Sixthly, Tshala Muana mostly sang in her ‘tshiluba’ language and not Lingala.
Seventhly, Tshala Muana ‘almost’ become our aunt, as she was at one point in her life deeply in love with our freedom fighter, VJ Mwaanga, and pushed for marriage. But Uncle VJ, who was a bachelor at the time, was not ready for marriage.
It is reported that quite a number of cabinet Ministers were drooling over her supporting documents, it even became a point of discussion in a cabinet meeting.
May our ancestors recieve Tshala Muana. May she rest in power.
