Leave MMD to Nevers, Mutati told

4TH Revolution Party leader Eric Chanda says Mutati should have left the MMD in the hands of Nevers Mumba so that the former ruling party remains vibrant enough to provide checks and balances.

Chanda said this in an interview on Saturday and  called on Mutati who he said had chosen a ministerial position in the PF regime than running his party. Chanda said Mutati should relinquish the MMD presidency.

“I held comrade Mutati in high esteem but after he accepted the ministerial position in PF while holding on to MMD presidency, it leaves me with a lot of question marks on his morals,” Chanda said.

He said the appointment of Mutati by President Edgar Lungu was meant to kill the MMD so that he could have few opposition parties challenging his governance system.

“We can’t say Edgar Lungu is grooming his rival (Mutati) so that he can come and challenge him in 2021. He appointed him so that he can kill MMD, I wish he left it with Nevers Mumba,” Chanda added.
He said it was out of selfishness that Mutati was holding on to MMD despite joining PF.

“Mutati is now PF. I say so because it will be very difficult for him to provide checks and balances both inside and outside parliament to a government he is serving. If he was indeed MMD with a passion to revive it, he would have refused the appointment to avoid being compromised,” said Chanda.
