The widow of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has submitted documents that cast fresh light on the events leading up to his untimely passing. The affidavit, now part of the official court record, details how systematic denial of medical care and politically motivated restrictions accelerated the former Head of State’s decline.

Contained in her sworn statement is a powerful account of the late President’s final tussle for medical attention just months before his death:

“Culminating from the continued prohibitions and failure to access medical care from his designated medical personnel, in late 2024, the late President Lungu became more ill and had a severe loss of appetite. In consequence, he saw an opportunity to leave Zambia in January 2025 without the approval or permission of the current President, when the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, Irene Khan, visited Zambia. Certain officials were unlawfully discharged at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, as such officials were accused of helping the late President Lungu flee Zambia without permission.”

The affidavit adds weight to growing concerns that the late President faced deliberate restrictions, even during illness. More strikingly, the original letters now before the court undermine the official narrative that they were AI-generated fabrications.

The truth cannot be silenced. President Edgar Lungu may be gone, but his story is now being told—under oath, and before the entire world.
