Kitwe Magistrate jailed for corruption

Kitwe Magistrate Penjani Lamba, on Friday 16th August, 2013 sentenced Joyce Chikolwa, a Local Court Magistrate at Kitwe Local Courts to Six (6) Months imprisonment with Hard Labor for one count of Corrupt Practices by Public Officer contrary to Section 19(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act no. 38 of 2010.

It was alleged that Chikolwa, a Local Court Magistrate with the judiciary department, on dates unknown but between the 1st September 2011 and 4th October 2011 corruptly solicited for and actually received K1 500.00 cash gratification from Alice Chisembele and Beatrice Chisembele as an inducement or reward  for herself to review a Judgment which she had earlier passed in a divorce case involving John Chisembele and Catherine Nakamba, a matter or transaction that concerned the Local Court, a Public body.

Chikolwa’s sentence is with effect from 16th August 2013 and she has since been incarcerated at Kamfinsa Prison in Kitwe where she is expected to serve her sentence.
