KBF move to challenge Lungu unsettles PF

The declaration by Prominent Lusaka Lawyer and (PF staunch supporter Kelvin Fube Bwalya better known as KBF has ruffled feathers in the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

In what looks like a coordinated move, so far four PF Provincial Chairpersons have issued statements condemning KBF for stating his ambitions.

The Provincial Chairpersons includes Luapula’s Nickson Chilangwa, Copperbelt’s Nathan Chanda, North Western’s Jackson Kungo and Central Province’s Remember Mutale.

Others who have condemned KBF includes PF councillor Christopher Shakafuswa.

In what looks an orchestrated move, the PF Provincial chairman have rubbished KBF’s ambitious plans and instead thrown their weight behind President Edgar Lungu.

But when contacted for a comment, Lungu said the party is a democratic party and any one is free to prticipate.

Chanda in a media statement, said KBF should be reminded that PF is not a ‘katemba’ party, but a political party that is established on rules and procedures.

“PF has demonstrated that it is the only Democratic party in the country. We have had intraparty elections throughout the country, from section, branch, ward, constituency, District and Provincial level. This is an achievement which many political parties have failed to do.”

“Not withstanding, these facts, we have seen of late the manner in which ba KBF wants to practice his politics. Ba KBF should be free and is free to challenge for any position in the party. But we note with concern the allegations leveled against the party and its leadership, he wants to stand on. We are not saying that he should not criticize the leadership, but the manner in which it is being done,” Chanda, who is also Luanshya Mayor, explained.

And Chilangwa, who is also Provincial Minister in Luapula, said the ruling party has already settled for President Edgar Lungu as its Presidential candidate for the 2021 general elections.

Chilangwa said if KBF is a true PF member he should by now that President Lungu is the party and the people’s choice for the 2021 polls.

“Let me advise my brother KBF to shelve those ambitions because he is just waisting his time. Unless he chooses to form his own political party, then he is free to run for President elsewhere not in PF; here (PF) we have settled for President Lungu,” Chilangwa said.

And Chilangwa has warned KBF never to continue daring the party by his continued act of disrespect to President Lungu.

And Mutale, the Central Province PF Chairperson, stated that KBF’s recent words in the media demonstrate that he does not mean well for the ruling Party.

“We found his calling on the Party and Republican President to pass the baton over to him because the President had allegedly failed to be in very bad taste and laced with malice. Fube has shown that he is not a gatherer of people but a scatterer; he has shown that he is an anarchist,” Mulenga explained in a statement.

The North western Province Patriotic Front has not been left out as its chairperson Jackson Kungo advised KBF that he manage his 2021 presidential ambitions on the PF ticket.

Kungo says PF structures across the country had already endorsed President Lungu as the party’s sole presidential candidate for 2021.

He added that KBF has a democratic right to contest for any political position he qualifies for but that there is no need for anyone who means well for the party to ask president Lungu to pass on the baton.

When launching his book at Taj Pomodzi Hotel on Tuesday April, 23 219, KBF declared that he will contest the presidency under PF ticket come 2021.
