Katongo nominated for the BBC best footballer Award

Zambia’s Chipolopolo skipper Christopher Katongo has been shortlisted with four other players for the BBC African Footballer of the Year 2012 award.

The BBC has revealed that Katongo who is also a candidate for the Africa Best Footballer for 2012 is battling for the title with  Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast who is on the list for the second consecutive year.

Goal getter Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast, Demba Ba of Senegal, Younes Belhanda of Morocco’s are also on the list.

The BBC says the winner will be decided by African football fans, who have until 1830 GMT on Thursday, 13 December to vote for their choice.

The winner will be announced on Monday, 17 December, BBC revealed on Thursday.

The race is tight as all the four players have had an outstanding year winning silverware.

Katongo helped his country Zambia win the 2012 Africa Cup for the first time. And if he wins the Award he will be the first Zambian player to be crown the title.
