Kanyama councillor gets 18 months for corruption

UPND Kanyama Ward 10 Councillor Brighton Bvilumba has been slapped with a jail term of one year six months after he was found guilty of theft by public servant involving over K56,000.

In this case, Bvilumba stole the said money which was supposed to be paid to 13 people engaged by the Lusaka City Council to distribute bills for ground rates arrears on behalf of the local authority.

Last year, Bvilumba, the sole UPND councillor in Lusaka District, attended a PF rally and announced that he was endorsing the candidature of Miles Samoa for Mayor of Lusaka. His move was widely seen as a ploy to escape the theft case.

Details later.
