Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili has directed Police to immediately release detained Miners linked to the riot in Luanshya.

Scores of miners in Luanshya district on Friday took to the streets to protest against the K900 salaries.

The miners, who have been put on forced leave after Baluba mine was placed under care and maintenance due to the shortage of power at the mine, complained that there is nothing one can do with a K900 going by the biting economy Zambians are facing.

“For some of us the banks have deducted everything. I just remained with k200, what can I do with a K200? I cannot send my children to school and I cannot pay rentals,” said one of the miners.

The irate miners who were addressed by Luanshya district commissioner Harold Mbaulu near section four clinic in Roan township  also threatened to march to China Luanshya Mine (CLM) general offices and be addressed by management but armed police officers prevented them from doing so.

Speaking to the press in Kitwe today, Kambwili who is also Chief Government Spokesperson warned that the Mine Owners will be held responsible of any consequences resulting from the riot by Miners.
