Kambwili lying – Police

Police have dismissed claims by Roan PF Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili that one of the victims of the attack on NDC supporters by PF cadres has died.

On Tuesday, machete-wielding PF cadres descended on a group of NDC supporters who had gone to Lusaka Central Police to offer solidarity to Kambwili, the NDC political consultant, who was appearing before the Anti-Fraud Unit for questioning.

Four people where reportedly injured during the attack, including innocent bystanders.

Yesterday evening, Kambwili posted on his Facebook page that one of the victims (pictured) had died.

“I just received the most devastating news from Lusaka and it has made me extremely upset with the current state of our country. The passerby who was mistaken for an NDC youth because he wore an orange T-shirt has sadly passed away as he was butchered during the time Panga wielding PF youths from inter-city branch came to hack my supporters,” Kambwili wrote.

“The innocent man who was not part of the NDC was brutally murdered in full view of the police. The man in question is the gentleman that was in the video that circulated on social media as citizens attended to him after being butchered with machetes. I know that the police will not make any arrest because they know exactly who killed this innocent man, but what I want to emphasize is that God does not sleep on his children.”

But police spokesperson Esther Katongo said in a statement that police have consulted with both UTH management as well as parents of 22-year-old Sibeso Kufekisa, and were informed that he was alive and discharged from UTH on Wednesday.

Katongo advised Kambwili, who is currently facing charges of forgery, uttering false documents and giving false information to a public officer, to be truthful and avoid misleading the public.

She also appealed to all politicians to desist from misleading the public.
