Opposition leaders confer

Opposition UPND says the NDC is free to chose who should represent the party at the National dialogue which is supposed to be attended by Presidents of the political parties.

There is been debate that NDC consultant Chishimba Kambwili who is still serving as Member of Parliament under PF cannot attend the national dialogue.

The PF that expelled Kambwili but is challenging the decision in court says he cannot attend the event.

But the UPND which is in an alliance with NDC says there is nothing wrong for Kambwili to represent the party if that is what it (NDC)  decides.

In a press statement below to Zambian Eye, UPND spokesperson says the debate is unnecessary.

NDC FREE TO DECIDE WHO ATTENDS NATIONAL DIALOGUE, SAYS UPND
___________________________

We have noted with interest, the debate on who should attend the forthcoming national dialogue.

On account of this, we would like to state that the National Democratic Congress party (NDC) is free to choose who should attend the Church Mother Bodies-led national dialogue slated for the 18th January, 2019.

If that party wishes that it’s consultant Dr Chishimba Kambwili should represent it, so be it. Since that is the party’s choice and no one should stand in the way of the party’s constitutional choice.

As a party that values the national dialogue, we respect the decisions of other parties that will be represented by representatives of their choice including the NDC.

Therefore, the debate on who should attend the Church-led dialogue is not necessary as issues to be discussed affect all citizens irrespective of their status.

As a country, we must set our priorities right and avoid discussing issues that will not in any way foster peace and development in our nation. We must, as leaders, place the interest of the people first and this is why in the UPND we say Zambia and Zambians first.

  1. Kambwili has created this problem himself.PF expelled him from the party.Regrettably Kambwili has gone to court telling the court that he does not want to leave PF.How then can he represent a party
that he is not a member.UPND has a track record of having expelled Kafue District Mayor or Chairman for attending a development meeting addressed by the Republican President.
Kambwili should merely withraw his court case, resign from PF and assume the Presidency of NDC and nobody will bother him about attending any meeting for Political Party Presidents.
