Football legend Kalusha Bwalya has hailed the Red Bull Salzburg duo of Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu for their UEFA Champions League exploits.

On Wednesday night, Daka made history by becoming the first Zambian to score a goal in the modern Champions League era as Salzburg defeated Genk 4-1.

Mwepu made two assists for the Austrian champions in the same game.

Speaking to Diamond Sports, the 1988 African Footballer of the Year who scored a goal in the then European Cup for PSV in the 1991/1992 season as they beat Besiktas 2-1 has described the performance of the duo as a great achievement.

“I’m delighted for Patson, just to play in a competition as tough as the Champions League is an achievement, he will score many more goals for sure.

“It should be an encouragement to the other boys and girls about discipline and determination and what one can achieve, congratulations to Patson and Mwepu for flying the Zambian and African flag week in and out,” he has said.

  1. In the modern Champions League era? Champions League has only got one era. It began in 1992. Before that there was the Club championship.
