Patriotic Front General Secretary Wynter Kabimba has paid glowing tribute to President Michael Sata for supporting him when some PF members wanted to hound him out of the party. rose

According to the Zambian Daily Mail, Kabimba said this in Kawambwa, Luapula province when he addressed PF officials. He said President Sata showed strong leadership qualities and that the PF has remained the only strong political party in the country.

“I want to thank President Sata for being there for me when some people were against the office of the secretary-general and the presidency,” Kabimba said.

PF cadres last year took to the streets with a mock coffin demanding the removal of Kabimba from the ruling party. The protests that went on for a period of about three months received endorsements from the PF structures across the country.

The PF Cadres even made it difficult for Kabimba to attend public functions in Lusaka. The protests resulted into a death when two factions clashed at one occasion leaving several cadres injured.

The cadres also picketed State House and petitioned President Sata and the PF Central Committee to remove Kabimba from the party.  Almost all members of the Central Committee except Vice president Guy Scott were for the idea of having Kabimba who is also Minister of Justice out.

Kabimba was only served by President Sata who told the Central Committee meeting that they should leave the matter to him to handle it. That is how Kabimba survived.

Mr Kabimba said Zambians cannot vote for the MMD and UPND because PF is a pro-poor party, which will remain in power for a long time.
He also told PF members not to engage in violence because doing so retards development.
