Junior tennis players gear up for Love-40 Tourney

tennisMufulira Tennis Club secretary Masauso Zimba today announced  the hosting of the annual Love-40 open junior tennis tournament. The one day event is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th at Mufulira Tennis Club. Love-40 President Sydney Bwalya, a former Zambian Davis Cup tennis player now based in United States, in conjunction with Amezam LLC, a USA leading shipping company to Zambia, has sponsored the tournament.

Love-40 programme is a Dallas, Texas based nonprofit organization and supports grassroots tennis programme in Mufulira. The organization goal is aimed at encouraging children participate in the sport of tennis and many other sports related activities within the Copperbelt region. ” We are particularly grateful and we would like to commend the Love-40 board members for taking it upon themselves to develop tennis especially with the young kids.” Zimba said.

Eighty junior players from various clubs of the Copperbelt region are set to take to the clay courts this year.

” The programme does not only supports the hosting of tournaments but deeply assist even those children that have no access to equipment to participate in tennis as equipment has been made available by Love-40 programme,” he added.

“We also believe that sport like tennis can actually be taken as a career and such tournaments like love-40 sponsored one can go a long way in developing some of these young kids into professional tennis players,” said Zimba

one day tournament will see junior players fight for honours in the under-10, under-12, under-14, under 16 and  under 18 age-groups. This year’s prizes include trophies, racquet bags , t-shirts and tournament points.
