Opposition MMD president Nevers Mumba says the victories by the ruling PF in the just ended by-elections is a well deserved one.

Mumba has since congratulated the ruling party which readopted his Members of Parliament in Masaiti and Senga Hill.

“Following the unquestionable victories in Masaiti, Senga Hill and Chawama by elections, I wish, on behalf of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), to congratulate President Edgar Lungu and the Patriotic Front (PF) on their well-deserved victory,” Dr Mumba said.

“Of note has been the absence of violence in this round of elections, a culture we should all strive to inculcate in our politics,” he observed. “We also wish to congratulate all those who participated in the elections for contributing to the democratic process of our country.”

  1. Strange for Mumba to be congratulating Simbao. He was better off keeping quite. Where is the MMD under Nevers leadership headed to? Why should PF even open talks for a merger with them when they can just wait a little while for what has remained of the MMD to disintegrate and take it over without fuss?

    • Very true. Mumba’s speaking out just raises suspicions. Is the MMD merging with the PF? So that we can have the same people we removed from office in govt?

  2. Mumba is specialized in auctioning political parties. He feels the PF will be the highest bidder. RB has already played a quick one on him, he is late the party is already gone.

  3. So it is true that the MMD as a party is no more. Rev. Dr Nevers Mumba wants a job from the PF leadership and in the process has sacrificed the MMD. How do true democrats feel? Well, then for our democracy to continue thriving let the UPND be strengthened. Even if it means going for a convention to consolidate the party, let it be. We need a credible strong opposition party to avoid going back to the dungeons of one-party state. The UPND is one such party. The Rainbow party is welcome but my memories of how its President behaved at ACC scare me if the man becomes President.

If MMD managed to dislodge UNIP from power and the PF managed to defeat the MMD, even the PF can be defeated. The narrow defeat of HH in the recent by-election is testimony to that. Whatever we do, let us no go back to a one-party state. Let us not be cheated by people pursuing personal interest by advocating for mergers of the opposition and the ruling party in order to be rewarded with jobs. Zambia’s long term interests are bigger and better than one person getting a job. There are thousands other Zambians also looking for jobs right now.

I would like to thank His Excellency Mr Edgar C Lungu for steering the PF away from their traditional violent nature. Keep it up Mr President. Make it even better by playing clean politics and sparing political opponents from harrassment by the State machinery under your control. The opposition are Zambians, paying taxes and enhancing our demoracy.
