It is the time for Young people – Bowman Lusambo

The success of the recently held Young and Emerging Leaders Jubilee Conference reinforces the belief that time has now come for young people to take over the leadership of this great nation.
The purposeful approach and unity exhibited by the hundreds of young people that converged at the Mulungushi International Conference in Lusaka further washed off all misgivings that the youth may not be ready to lead.
The youths that met at the Jubilee Conference should be applauded for exhibiting maturity and unity of purpose in matching forward to liberate Zambia of its current malaise.
As MMD youths, we participated in the Jubilee Conference with a firm belief that we were adding our credible voice to the clarion call for a change in leadership.
We sat and deliberated because we firmly believe that Zambia @ 50 should mean a transformational change of leadership at every level in this great nation.
As we the countdown to October 24, the date of our 50th Independence anniversary, we wish to reiterate our call to fellow youths to join the crusade for fresh leadership.
Youths from all walks of life should not be left behind. We have to march together and sing from the same hymn sheet if we are to rescue this nation from its current level of destitution.
Youths of all persuasions should realize that Zambia has reached her peak, this nation is no longer in puberty. Zambia is now fully grown to realize its full potential. We cannot afford to continue regressing. Our children and their children are now demanding that Zambia serves them better. We owe it to them to create a better Zambia that guarantees the realization of their God given potential.
We should also gather around and support one another. Failure to support one another would lend advantage to the old politicians in future elections.
Some young and emerging leaders who have entered the political fray such as Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata, myself, Kelvin Sampa and other leaders should be supported until they reach their leadership potential.
By staying on the fence, we are choosing to perpetuate a decades stronghold on power for the old and recycled politicians. By choosing not to act, we are allowing the same old mediocrity we have lived by all these 50 years.
In conclusion, reports that some retired politicians are contemplating coming out of retirement are nauseating. We have been on record condemning any attempts by the old politicians to resurface and participate actively in politics.
Our appeal is for the old politicians to leave the stage for the young ones. They had their time and now is our time.
