Veteran Zambian politician Vernon Mwaanga commonly known as VJ has dismissed reports that he helped incumbent Malawian President Joyce Banda in that country’s polls.

Mr. Mwaanga has described the report as fiction and malicious. He said the Malawian Media that carried the story could have contacted him in all fairness.

The Zambian politicians who is highly regarded as an election tactician said he is not playing any role in Malawi’s polls. He is not even advising any of the politicians in that country.

Mr. Mwaanga explains that he was last in Malawi in 2010, during the official opening of the new Parliament building of Malawi, where he represented the National Assembly of Zambia.

“I have not been to Malawi since, and I have not been involved in advising or consulting with any of Malawi political parties. Yes, in the last election of 2009, I had advised the late president Mutharika and his running mate, who was then Joyce Banda, who is now the President of Malawi. But since that time, I have not been involved in advising any of the political parties in Malawi on elections, or on any other matters,” Mr. Mwaanga said.

Mr. Mwaanga and former MMD National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe have been linked to a report circulating in Malawi that they were hired by the Malawian President as political consultants ahead of the elections scheduled for May 20, 2014.

The report of Mr. Mwaanga’s involvement in the polls has caused panic among opposition political parties. The opposition have complained of Mwaanga’s ‘involvement’ in their internal politics.

The opposition are reported to have gotten hold of the report with details of how President Banda’s PP would win the elections.

The report indicates that President Banda will win with over 40 percent while the two opposition will manage about 20 percent.
