Vice-president Guy Scott has explained that it is the ruling Patriotic Front – PF’s policy to adopt and support Members of Parliament who defect from other parties.

Explaining to Chiefs and later to residents of Mufumbwe on who the PF has adopted Stephen Masumba instead of Eliot Kamwendo who was the preferred candidate by the people, Dr. Scott said it was the PF’s policy to give opportunities to MPs who resign to get back the seat on PF ticket.

“This is our policy,” said Dr Scott adding that the party did the same in Msanzala in Eastern province.

Scott who is also PF Vice president said the party would rather lose an election but abide to its principals.

Scott asked the PF members when he addressed a rally after Masumba filed his nominations to give him the support and deliver the seat to PF. He also urged PF members to welcome the people Masumba had come with from MMD and treat them the same with the old members.

The seat fell vacant after Masumba defected from MMD to PF

The Electoral Commission of Zambia – ECZ has set November 8, this year as
by-election day for the Mufumbwe seat.

Three candidates are vying for the seat thus Masumba under PF, Stafford Mulusa for Movement for Multi-party Democracy – MMD and Steven Kamwengo for United National Independence Party – UNIP.
