Inmate dies after jumping out of moving vihecle

One mentally challenged inmate has died while the other sustained injuries after the two jumped out of a moving motor vehicle through the window in Kalomo District, Southern Province.

The deceased was identified only as Nchimunya Mugala.

Mugala sustained fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Kalomo Urban Clinic while the other mentally challenged inmate identified as Vincent Chintobele aged 20 is receiving treatment at the same Clinic.

The incident happened on September 9, 2023 around 21:00 hours along the Great North Road eight Kilometers south of Kalomo town.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale in a statement confirmed that the two inmates jumped out of a moving Zambia Correction Service Yutong bus bearing registration number ZCS 3221 which was being driven by Chipulu Mwale aged 41 of Livingstone Prisons Camp.

The bus was moving from Chainama East Hospital in Lusaka and had six people on board including the driver.

The body of the deceased is in Kalomo Urban Clinic mortuary awaiting formal identification and Postmortem.
