DSTVInformation and Broadcasting Services Minister Joseph Katema has sounded a serious warning to individuals involved in criminality that they will not escape the full weight of the law.

The Minister’s warning comes in the wake of the arrest of nine people in Lusaka recently in connection with selling of free to air decoders which have manipulated software that enables one to illegally access the DStv signal without paying for it.

Dr Katema said government will not allow cheating and manipulation of the DStv technology because the scourge has potential to seriously undermine the country’s social and economic wellbeing.

He commended the Zambia Police Service and other law enforcement agencies for working closely with the Ministry of Information to smash the syndicate.

Dr Katema has also called on members of the public to report to law enforcement agencies anyone selling free to air decoders with manipulated software accessing the DStv signal free of charge.

He further stated that police in collaboration with officers from his ministry and other collaborators are on high alert to fight the scourge.

The Minister was speaking during the launch of the Multi-choice Box Office at Raddison Blu Hotel in Lusaka last night.

And Dr Katema said the launch of the Box Office is an exciting and brilliant innovation by Multi-Choice Zambia that will expand the viewer’s choice of movies and allow them to enjoy the best entertainment on DStv.

He however stated that there is need to find ways and means to reduce the cost of DStv charges in order to enable more customers to access DStv facilities and services.

The Box Office is a service that allows DStv subscribers to conveniently rent and watch the latest blockbuster movies in the comfort of their homes right on their PVR decoders.

Meanwhile, Dr Katema stressed that the success of Multi-Choice operations in Zambia is testimony of the conducive business and investment environment government has put in place.
