I’m watching you, President HH warns wayward PSs

President Hakainde Hichilema has warned wayward public officials such as Permanent Secretaries are abusing their offices for self aggrandisement.

He warned such officials that his microscope is trained at them and they will not go unpunished.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of High Commissioners and Ambassadors, recently, Hichilema said sometimes officials forget why they were appointed into office and took it as opportunity to advance their personal interests, instead of serving the people.

And President Hichilema said people in some circles could be questioning why Colonel Panji Kaunda has been appointed, adding that he adores people who are willing to serve and not to be served.

He said acceptance to serve in government entails that one must surrender their personal interests and prioritise national interests.

Hichilema also pointed out that every public office holder including himself should be open for scrutiny.

HH appointed and sworn in five envoys into the foreign service among them UPND National Chairman Steven Katuka as High Commissioner to Namibia.

Also sworn in is late First President Kenneth Kaunda’s son, Panji Kaunda as High Commissioner to Malawi.

Others are Eunice Luambia as Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Duncan Mulima as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Paulo Posita as Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
