Roan PF “rebel” Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili has complained that the government has been blocking him from holding meetings with his constituents.

Kambwili, the opposition NDC shadow leader, has revealed that in the last 12 months he has applied for a police permit to hold public meetings on more than 16 occasions, all of which have been denied.

“I tend to get very very upset when people describe President Edgar Lungu as a democrat,” Kambwili told Costa Mwansa on Diamond TV’s live interview programme ‘Costa’ Sunday evening. “And by the way I’m even upset with SADC for allowing him to be chairman for defence, politics and security, Troika…allowing him to hold such a position when he is destroying the tenets of democracy in the country where he is President.

“Costa, you cannot go and clean up the neighbour’s house if you can’t clean your own house. If you want to introduce cleanliness in every organisation, first it must start with you, you must lead by example. But our President, our dear friend (Lungu) has not lived up to the democratic tenets of this country.”

Kambwili continued: “Look, Costa, I’ve been denied access to have meetings in my constituency. Even to visit a ward, they send police. For the past one year I’ve not addressed a meeting in my constituency. I’ve never visited even a ward in my constituency. I’ve never visited even the markets in my constituency. But the police give permits to the Honorable Member of Parliament for Luanshya, Hon. Stephen Chungu to go and address meetings in my constituency.

“For one year (holds up piece of paper) I have applied for police permits…I think this permit I have here has to be the 15th or 16th that has been denied. Under normal circumstances a Member of Parliament doesn’t need to apply for a police permit.”

Kambwili has challenged his expulsion from the PF in the courts. According to the amended Constitution, if the courts rule that he was unjustly expelled, he will be allowed to hold on to his seat as an independent.

  1. MR CK YOU ARE STILL A PF MEMBER. AND AS SUCH YOU MUST FOLLOW WHAT THE PF SECRETARIAT PLANS. IF YOUR MEETINGS ARE NOT ON THE PF CALENDAR, THEN THEY WILL NOT BE APPROVED. HOWEVER, IF YOU QUIT FROM PF OFFICIALLY AND INFORM THE SPEAKER AND JOIN ANY PARTY OF YOUR CHOICE, YOU WILL BE A FREE MAN. DONT BE CLEVER BY TRYING TO EAT WITH BOTH HANDS. YOU WILL BE BRUISED AGAIN AND AGAIN AND YOU WILL CONTINUE FAINTING MR FENTIZO.
