MMD president Nevers Mumba says his relationship with his UPND counterpart Hakainde Hichilema and predecessor Rupiah Banda is good contrary to media reports.
And Dr. Mumba has warned that the minimum wage introduced by the PF government may result into riots if not handled properly.
There have been media reports that Dr. Mumba is not in good relations with Mr. Banda as he is being accused of having grown bigheaded. The media has been pushing for Mumba’s comment on HH’s remarks that MMD never bounce back to power. The UPND and MMD are in some working alliance.
Dr Mumba says he was enjoying his working relations with HH. He said the two leaders always meet and HH met him after the media report which Mumba says was reported out of context.
“President HH and I are enjoying a good working relationship,” Dr Mumba said. “He came to see me after that statement that was (reported) out of context.”
On the relationship with RB who is being accused of pushing for HH to lead the UPND-MMD pact, Dr Mumba said it will be him to make a decision on that matter saying the former president was happy with his leadership.
He said he was receiving good support from the former president whom he says calls him to offer advice. Dr Mumba said there manoeuvres to bring some differences with his predecessors but said it won’t work.
“The idea of dividing me with RB won’t work out,” Dr. Mumba said. “He (RB) has been very supportive, I call and he calls me.”
On the appointment of MMD MPs to deputy ministerial positions, Dr Mumba said the move is aimed at the PF creating numbers in anticipation for the passing of new constitution. He said the PF was against the running mate clause and the 50 plus 1 percent for a president and was now preparing to defeat the clauses.
He explained there has been manouvers by PF to ‘kill’ the MMD saying it started with petitions which could not work out then opted for de-registration.  Dr. Mumba wondered how President Michael Sata could appoint 10 MPs from one party.
The MMD president explained that MPs could still serve the people without being in government or taking ministerial position contrary to what is being advanced by those appointed.
And minimum wage, Dr Mumba said there was no wide consultation by the PF government. He warned that the matter was delicate and may end up causing riots due to job looses. He said many employers may lay off their employees because they may not manage to pay the minimum wage ordered by government.

Dr Mumba was speaking when he was hosted on Muvi Television’s Assignment programme on Sunday night.
