I went out but I’m not obliged to explain campaign funds sources – Lungu

PF Presidential candidate Edgar Lungu says he is not under any obligation to explain where he sources his campaign funds or who he went to meet over the weekend outside Zambia.

Lungu who left the country on Saturday and only arrived Monday is said to have gone to Angola, Rwanda and Nigeria to look for campaign funds.

Speaking on arrival in Mbala Tuesday morning, Lungu admitted having left the country. He explained that Heads of state and friends of the party had invited him.

“Yes I was out of the country. I was invited by friends of the party, Heads of state and others. People that wish that we succeed. I was never in any hospital in South Africa or anywhere else,” Lungu said. “It looks like some people can only win if someone is sick or dies? I am here and let’s start the program.”

He said there was no law that regulates disclosure of sources of campaign funds.

“In Zambia, we are yet to regulate campaign finances and its sources. So candidates could receive support from anyone . But we are conscious that any support should be clean and conform with our ideals and programs of the Party,” Lungu said.

“You are aware that we are not using any resources from government and the Party is relying on the support of well wishers in Zambia and abroad,” he added.

The PF presidential candidate said he was enjoying good health.

“I wish to state that I am enjoying good health and was never admitted in any hospital as alleged by our adversary and their media institutions,” Lungu said.

Lungu who arrived in Mbala midmorning was received by His Royal Highness, Dr. Mathius Mpande, who is Chief Mpande, Mbala Member of Parliament, Mwalimu Simfukwe, Provincial Minister, Hon. Freedom Sikazwe and some party officials.

He left Mbala for Mpulungu, Kaputa and Nsama Districts where he was scheduled to hold rallies.
