I did not apologise to Kampyongo – Kambwili

NDC political consultant Chishimba Kambwili has denied apologising to Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo for making “unsubstantiated” corruption allegations against him.

On March 21, Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Matibini ruled that Kambwili had breached parliamentary privileges by accusing Kampyongo of receiving a bribe from Grandview International, the suppliers of the controversial 42 fire tenders,  without producing evidence.

When The House resumed sitting on Tuesday, Dr Matibini ordered the Roan PF ‘rebel’ MP to read a written apology that had been prepared for him.

“Mr Speaker, I Dr Chishimba Kambwili, in my capacity as member of parliament for Roan parliamentary constituency, do apologise to you Mr Speaker and to this August house on the remarks I made before the floor of the house against Honourable Kampyongo. Sir, having reflected on my conduct which is the breach of parliamentary privileges and contempt of the House, I wish to assure you sir and the August House that from now on, I shall endeavour to ensure that the information I give on the floor of the House is in compliance with the rules and regulations of this House. Mr Speaker I thank you,” read Kambwili.

But in an interview with Prime TV today, Kambwili clarified that his apology was not addressed to Kampyongo but the Speaker and The House

He explained that he apologised for not revealing the sources who provided him with information regarding the alleged bribe and not for making false allegations against Kampyongo.

“I did not apologise to Honourable Kampyongo. Contrary to what has been reported by the Daily Nation, News Diggers, ZNBC and  Times of Zambia, I have not apologised to Kampyongo. I still stand by what I said. I only apologised to the Speaker and The House. By not revealing the identity of the whistleblowers who gave me the information, I breached breached parliamentary privileges,” stated Kambwili.

  3. Bwana Kambwili, just humble yourself. The Parliamentary etiquette demands that when you make an allegation against somebody on the floor of the House, you are required to lay evidence on the table not mentioning Whistle blower’s names.Your apology to the house was premised on the fact that you have no proof or evidence about Kampyongo’s corruption.

If indeed you have evidence against Hon Kampyongo, take that evidence to your now good friends the MAST NEWSPAPER so that they can publish it.Failure to this,it is wise that you SHUT UP.

  4. I fail to understand this upnd Sangoma in just last ended by-election in Chilanga? In the first place, was Kampyongo absent in Parliament the day when he was told to provide corruption evidence o apologize publicly? This man only thinks after opening his foul mouth. Who cares ,if he didn’t mention Kampyongo o not but the apologize he gave was about Kampyongo why struggling to twist his tongue now.For me, this upnd sangoma is now eating his own porridge and he did well to apologize to Kampyongo.

  5. This is warped, and the man thinks that everybody else is as warped as he is. The apology was centred on falsehoods he leveled against Hon. Kampyongo. It is therefore not difficult for any sane person to see that the apology was to Hon. Kampyongo, through the Speaker. This was in line with Parliamentary decorum.
