Expelled MMD Member of Parliament for Mufumbwe in North Western province says he is game and ready for a battle with his former party in a by-election.
Stephen Masumba who is serving as Deputy Minister for Local government in the PF was on Thursday expelled by the MMD highest organ NEC for misconduct. MMD Chief Executive Major Richard Kachingwe announced in Lusaka after the NEC meeting.
Major Kachingwe says the expulsion has got nothing to do with Mr. Masumba’s appointment to serve in the ruling PF government.
But in reaction, Mr. Masumba said he was ready to meet the MMD in Mufumbwe during the by-election with the hope that the PF will adopt him to re-contest the seat.
“I want to be the first PF elected Member of Parliament from North Western province,” Masumba said on Thursday in Mufumbwe when he head that MMD had fired him.
Mr. Masumba has been reportedly campaigning re-aligning his supporters with the PF from the time he was appointed to serve in government.
The last by-election in the constituency was bloody and for the first time in history saw the seat being won by the opposition. UPND candidate Kamwendo who has since defected to PF defeated ruling MMD’s candidate Masumba.
