HH urges Zambians to uphold Christian values

Hichilema says Zambia’s declaration as a Christian nation is significant and must not be ignored.

He reiterated that once elected as Republican President, courtesy of the Zambian people, he will ensure that the Christian status is upheld as the only way to build a just and fair society based on mutual respect.

Speaking this morning when he featured on Radio Christian Voice’s Chatback Programme, the UPND President who quoted several scriptures from the Bible said the body of Christ was one and called on Christians to end and begin each day with prayer.

He said he would actualize the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation that was introduced by the late President Frederick Chiluba by putting in place a mechanism whereby State House would be easily accessible to church groups.

The UPND leader said his government will consider offering tax exemptions for equipment and other facilities that are used for evangelism.

Taxing equipment meant to carry out the work of God is tantamount to taxing God and it doesn’t make sense since these things belong to God and they help build a nation anchored in God’s love and guidance.

He also called on the country to remain united irrespective of faith, whether Petencostals, Catholics, Adventists, Apostles, Anglicans or other.

The UPND President who read the Bible and quoted from the Bible Book of Proverbs Chapter 4 Verse 24, which reads in part “Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips” said Christianity must help build Zambia.

And Hichilema has condemned violent activities currently prevailing in the country regardless of who was involved.

He said Christianity does not condone violence, and that all well meaning Zambians must condemn it and vote out those promoting unchristian traits.

He has since appealed to the country to remain calm and practise Christian values both in word and deed so that Zambia can remain a beacon of true Christianity.

The UPND leader also called on the PF Government to immediately reopen the two largest learning institutions in the country, UNZA and CBU.

He took a swipe at remarks by Education Minister Michael Kaingu for saying those were not his children by emphasising that these were all our children, more especially those in leadership.

“I personally look after a number of vulnerable children who are not my biological children but I find it as a duty to provide the little help we can with my wife,” Hichilema said.
